A FireCut review: an AI plugin, not a web app
It cuts silence, drops filler words and repeated takes, and builds captions inside an editor you already have open — and it does that job well. Here is what it actually is, the one part of it that comes close to what we do, and what to check before the trial runs out.
A competitor, on a product that is mostly not one
InTheClips reads a long recording and decides which passages are worth posting as short clips. FireCut is an AI plugin that runs inside Adobe Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve and cleans up a timeline you have already built — cutting silence, dropping filler words and repeated takes, switching a multicam podcast between speakers, and building captions. Those are different jobs for most of what FireCut does, which is why this page is arranged as "here is what it is, here is what it is good at, here is the one place the two jobs actually meet" rather than as a row-by-row scoreboard.
No affiliate link, no tracked link, nothing on this page earns us anything whichever way you go. FireCut’s own site links an affiliate programme from its navigation, which is worth holding in mind while reading anything written about this product, including this.
It lives inside an editor you already own — mostly
FireCut is not, primarily, a website you upload footage to. It is an AI plugin: install it into Adobe Premiere Pro 2022 or later, or into DaVinci Resolve 20 or later (their own download page lists Free and Studio editions alike, on Windows, Mac or Linux), and it works against a sequence already sitting in your project, with media already on your own drives.
There is also a second product wearing the same name. FireCut Shorts is a separate, browser-based line on their own pricing page, billed by a monthly count of videos with a length cap on each, and it includes an always-free tier that carries a watermark. Its own explainer page sat behind a login screen when this was read, so beyond what the pricing page states, this review has nothing to add about how it works.
Licensing is per device, not per person. Their own FAQ says a licence key "is linked to one device at a time" and can be released from one machine and entered on another. Anyone who cuts on more than one computer should know that before they buy rather than after.
What it actually does to a sequence
Grouped the way their own pages describe it on 2026-08-22, because a review of a plugin is only useful if it says which mechanical job each part takes off you.
Cut and clean
Finds silence against your own timeline and cuts it, with a Basic mode for one click and an Advanced mode for more control. Filler words, repeated takes and profanity can be removed the same way, and a multicam podcast can be switched between cameras automatically, based on who is talking in the audio.
Captions and voice
Transcribes the sequence and styles the result as captions, with their site naming a long list of supported languages. Chapters can be detected from the same pass, and a voiceover or auto-generated music track can be added on top.
B-roll and highlights
B-roll from Storyblocks is inserted automatically based on what the video is about, licensed as part of the subscription. Create Highlights goes further: it marks moments in an already-imported sequence as candidates for a short, ready to export, reframe and caption — the one module worth a paragraph of its own below.
Every one of these operates on a sequence you already built. None of it decides, the way ours does, which forty seconds of a two-hour conversation a stranger would actually watch — except, arguably, the last one, which is why it gets its own section rather than a line in this grid.
Four advantages, and none of them are small
Written first and at length, because a review by a rival that skips this part is an advertisement with a disclosure stapled to the top of it.
Every module here does a real job on footage that already exists, faster and more consistently than doing it by hand.
It runs where the footage already is
No round trip. FireCut opens with the project already there and the media already ingested, inside an editor you were going to use anyway. For anyone cutting a weekly show, that is the difference between a workflow and an evening spent moving files.
It does the whole cleanup pass, not just the highlight
Silence, filler words, repeated takes, profanity, chapters, camera switching — we do none of it. Our product starts from a finished recording and never touches what is in it; FireCut is built to do exactly the tedious editing work that has to happen before a recording is finished.
B-roll is sourced for you, licensed and automatic
A Storyblocks licence bundled into the subscription and clips inserted based on what the audio is about is a real feature with a real cost behind it. We have no B-roll library and no B-roll insertion of any kind.
It reaches two editors, plus a lighter option for neither
A Premiere Pro plugin and a DaVinci Resolve plugin under one licence line, and — for someone with neither open — the separate browser-based FireCut Shorts tier. That is a wider net than a single web app can cast.
Four questions worth answering first
None of these is a criticism. They are the things a person is glad to have known on day one rather than on day thirty.
Does the plan you pick include what you actually want?
Their entry tier is described as feature-gated — silence cutting and cut-style editing — rather than metered by transcription hours, while the tiers above it add a monthly hour allowance for captions and the rest of the AI pass. Check which tier the feature you came for actually sits in before you compare a number against a competitor.
Is every speaker on their own tracked microphone?
The podcast module switches cameras based on who is talking in the audio, the same way AutoPod’s does — which means it needs named, paired audio and video tracks to work from. A single room mic or a mixed stereo bounce gives it nothing to tell speakers apart with. This is a question about how you record, and it is cheaper to answer before a trial than during one.
Which computer will the key live on?
A licence is tied to one device at a time, and their own FAQ describes releasing it from a machine to move it to another. If you cut on a laptop and a studio tower, work out what switching between them involves before you rely on it mid-project.
Which "free" did you mean?
firecut free could point at two different things: a time-limited trial on the Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve plugin line, or an always-on, watermarked tier of the separate FireCut Shorts browser product. They are not the same offer, and their own pricing page is the place to read the current terms of either.
Where the two products sit, since you are on our site
Included because it would be strange to pretend we have no interest. Read it as two different questions rather than as a scoreboard — for most of what FireCut does, it may not even be your question.
| What differs | InTheClips | FireCut |
|---|---|---|
| Where it runs | In a browser, on our machines. You paste a YouTube address or upload an mp4, mov, mkv or webm up to 8 GB — pasting a link also asks you to confirm the recording is yours to use; an upload asks for nothing. | Inside Adobe Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve as a plugin, plus a separate browser product called FireCut Shorts for anyone without either editor open. The core plugin never asks you to move your media. |
| What it decides | Which passages of a long recording are worth cutting into shorts. Every candidate arrives with four scores, its timecodes and the sentences it was drawn from. | Where to cut silence, which filler words and repeated takes to drop, and which camera to show. Mechanical decisions, made faster than a person can make them — plus, inside Create Highlights, which moments in an already-imported sequence to mark as a short. That last one is the row worth reading the note under. |
| What you hand it | A finished recording. It has no idea what your project file looks like and never sees it. | A Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve project with your footage already ingested and your tracks already named. |
| What comes back | A ranked list you approve from, then a short in one of five shapes — boxed 1:1, full 9:16, cam bubble, face over screen or the whole picture — rendered only from the seconds you kept. The same cut also downloads as an XML or EDL edit list — the cut, not the look — if you would rather finish it in Premiere or Resolve yourself. | A cleaned, captioned sequence sitting in your own project, plus, from Create Highlights, a set of marked candidate moments you review and export inside the same timeline. |
| Speaker tracking | TalkNet-ASD decides per frame who is talking and moves a crop inside the single frame you gave it, so a two-person interview stays on whoever is speaking. | Its podcast module switches between separate camera angles on a timeline, based on who is talking in the audio. The same underlying idea, applied to a completely different unit. |
| What is metered | One balance of credits, spent on the minutes of source analysed and, past a generous included batch of clips, on the exports beyond it. | Depends which line: the plugin’s higher tiers meter hours of transcription a month, its entry tier is gated by feature rather than by the hour, and the separate FireCut Shorts product meters a monthly count of videos with a length cap on each. The current figures for all of them are on their own pricing page. |
Read the second row twice if you were hoping FireCut would do our job as well as its own. Create Highlights is the one module that comes close, and it is also the one piece of this table we could not fully verify — their public pages did not say how a moment is chosen, so ask that question of the free trial rather than trusting a marketing page, ours included. Their column is from FireCut’s own public description of the product, read on ; ours is from the code that runs this one.
One module comes closer to our job than the other two combined
Create Highlights is the exception in an otherwise mechanical pack. Point it at a sequence already in your Premiere project and, by their own description, it analyses the video, finds the moments it rates highest, and marks them with red markers ready to export as their own sequences — reframed, captioned and B-rolled. That is a real overlap with the job this page is about, and it is closer than anything in AutoPod’s three modules, none of which ever judges what a passage is worth.
What we could not establish is how a pick is decided. Their public pages do not say whether it is reading the transcript the same pass already has to produce for captions, what if anything it does with the context around a chosen moment, or whether a pick arrives with a reason you could check against the transcript before trusting it. Nothing here claims an answer to any of that, because we do not have one — put it to the trial rather than to a marketing page.
What ours does with that same question, and what it costs. The whole recording is transcribed, the intro is detected and excluded, and the transcript is read in roughly thirty-minute windows in parallel with three minutes of overlap between them. Each candidate comes back with four pillar scores, its timecodes and the sentences behind it, and a cold-read pass flags a cut that cannot be followed without context. The free trial is thirty credits — thirty minutes of source video — granted once, with no card and no renewal, and it includes ten clips. Starter is $19 a month for 240 credits and 80 rendered clips, Creator $49 a month for 660 credits and 220 rendered clips, Studio $99 a month for 1,620 credits and 540 rendered clips, and a year costs eight months; an export past the included batch costs three credits from the same balance. The trial marks its exports and no paid plan does.
Questions people ask first
Mostly asked by somebody who has just worked out it lives inside an editor.
Is FireCut a web app?
Mostly no. The main product is an AI plugin for Adobe Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve, and it works against a sequence already open in one of those. There is a separate, lighter browser-based product on their pricing page called FireCut Shorts, but the plugin — the thing most people mean by the name — needs an editor installed.
What is the firecut login for?
An account for billing, licensing and (if you use it) the FireCut Shorts browser tool. The plugin inside Premiere or Resolve is unlocked by a licence key rather than by staying signed in inside the editor, and that key is tied to one device at a time until you release it.
Is there a firecut free version?
Two different things share that name. The Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve plugin line offers a time-limited free trial. The separate FireCut Shorts browser product has its own always-on free tier, watermarked, described on their pricing page. Read the current terms of whichever one you actually want on their own site, because they are not the same offer.
Do I need Adobe Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve to use it?
For the main product, yes — their own FAQ states the plugin requires Premiere Pro 2022 or later, and the DaVinci Resolve build requires version 20 or later, Free or Studio. If you do not open one of those most weeks, the browser-based FireCut Shorts tier is the part of this product built for you instead.
Does FireCut find clips for me?
Most of the pack does not attempt to — the silence cut, filler-word removal and camera switching are mechanical jobs on a timeline you already built. One module, Create Highlights, does mark candidate moments in a sequence for you, which is the closest this product comes to what we do. Their own pages do not explain how a pick is chosen, so that is the thing worth testing on a real episode before you rely on it.
What does firecut pricing look like?
Several lines, each metered differently: an entry tier gated by feature rather than by the hour, higher tiers metered in hours of transcription a month, a per-seat team plan, separate DaVinci-Resolve-only tiers, and the browser-based FireCut Shorts product metered by a monthly count of videos with a length cap on each. That shape is worth knowing before you open their pricing page, because the number by itself does not tell you which line it belongs to.
Is this FireCut review biased?
Structurally, yes, which is why it says so at the top rather than in a footer. What is checkable here is the part that does not depend on our opinion: that it is a plugin (mostly), which editors it requires, and what its modules do. All of that is on their own site and takes a couple of minutes to confirm. Treat every adjective on this page with suspicion, ours most of all.
What do other users say about it?
Product Hunt carries a modest but genuine run of reviews, read in full on 22 August 2026, and the theme running through the positive ones is time saved on repetitive editing — one described going from several hours on an edit down to two or three, another put a real share of a weekly editing routine back in their own hands. The complaint worth carrying into your own trial is support: at least one reviewer described a licensing problem that went unanswered for the better part of a week, alongside smaller notes about caption accuracy needing a manual pass and pricing that reads high in some markets. FireCut’s G2 and Trustpilot pages both returned a blocked response when this page was written, and no Capterra listing turned up, so Product Hunt is the one place this could actually be checked — read it yourself rather than trusting a summary, ours included.
Could I sensibly use both?
Yes, and for most of what FireCut does they do not collide: clean up and finish the show in Premiere or Resolve with FireCut, then read the finished recording here for the passages worth clipping. The one place to be careful is Create Highlights, since it is doing a version of our job inside your project — compare what it marks against what we rank before you settle on one. Either way, the approved cut here also downloads as an XML or EDL edit list that Premiere and Resolve both open.
What to read next
One is the plugin closest to this one in shape; the other is a direct competitor, for contrast.

AutoPod review
A Premiere plug-in for multicam podcasts. A different question from the one we answer.

SendShort review
A clipper that also schedules, translates captions and finds B-roll. Three things we do not.
