YouTube hashtag generator

Say what the video is about. Twenty hashtags come back, most important first, free and with nothing to sign up for.

One line is enough. The first three of what comes back are the ones that will be visible.

The part that decides everything

Only three of them are ever shown

YouTube lifts the first three hashtags above your title. They appear in blue over the video, in the order you wrote them, and they are the only ones a viewer sees. Everything after the third sits in the description doing whatever it does, unseen. So the real task is not generating twenty — it is deciding which three go at the front.

Those three are competing with your title for attention. They sit directly above it. A vague or off-topic first hashtag becomes the first thing read about your video, which is a strange thing to hand to a word chosen carelessly.

Hashtags are a smaller lever here than on TikTok. The title, the thumbnail and whether people keep watching decide where a YouTube video goes. Tags help place it among related subjects. They will not lift a video nobody finishes, and no generator changes that.

Practical

Four rules, and one of them is a cliff

Worth knowing, because breaking that one removes every hashtag on the video at once.

More than fifteen and none of them count

Go over fifteen and YouTube ignores every hashtag on the video. Twenty are generated so you can choose — pasting them all is the single mistake that costs you the lot.

No spaces inside one

A hashtag ends at the first space. Two words have to be joined, which is why the generated ones already are.

Order is the whole decision

Three are displayed and they are the first three you wrote. Put the most specific description of the video first, not the biggest category it belongs to.

They can go in the title instead

A hashtag typed into the title itself is shown there rather than above it. Rarely worth the characters, but it is where a series tag sometimes belongs.

What this site is

The generator is free. What we sell is downstairs.

InTheClips reads a long recording and finds the parts worth posting. Upload a file or paste a YouTube address — a watch page, a Short, a live URL or an embed — and the whole thing is transcribed. Every passage worth cutting comes back ranked, with timecodes and the sentences behind it, and nothing is rendered until you approve it.

Nothing is ever published on your behalf. There is no integration with YouTube for posting, and none planned. Reading a video from a platform and publishing one back to it are different connections, and only the first exists here — the MP4 waits in your library and the upload stays yours.

Questions

How many hashtags should I use on YouTube?

Three to five, and never more than fifteen. Fifteen is a real cliff rather than a guideline: go over it and YouTube ignores every hashtag on the video, so a long list is strictly worse than a short one.

Where do they show up?

The first three appear above the video title, in the order you wrote them. The rest live in the description. That is why what comes back here is ordered rather than merely collected.

Do hashtags help a video rank?

They help YouTube understand what a video is about and place it among related ones. They are not a ranking lever in the way a title or a thumbnail is, and anybody selling them as one is selling something else.

Is it free, and is there a catch?

Free, with no account and no email. This page introduces a paid product further down — a tool that reads a long recording and finds the clips in it. The generator costs us a fraction of a cent per press.

Do you keep what I type?

The line is sent to a model to produce the answer and is not stored against you — there is no account here to store it against.

Three words above the title. The video does the rest.
